My $7,000 Hearing Aids and the Financial Wake-Up Call

Updated: Dec 11, 2023

Welcome back! 🎉

Today, we're diving into the topic of finance and disability. Are you ready to get your financial superhero capes on and join me in this exhilarating adventure? 💥

Now, vision this: I recently had the incredible privilege of speaking at the Canadian Black Dollars Matter event about my own financial journey and how it affects my disability.

During the interview, they hit me with the big question: "How much do your hearing aids cost?" I bravely spilled the beans, "Oh, just a casual $7,000 each ear." 😱 The audience? Well, they were about as shocked as someone discovering a hidden treasure chest in their backyard!

But here's the juicy part: My talk inspired and touched everyone in that room. They didn't expect to hear just how expensive it can be to navigate the world with a disability. 🌟

As I continued answering questions, it hit me like a bolt of lightning – we need to put a big

spotlight on finance in the disability community. We're talking about knowing the cost of living our best lives without constantly relying on our parents or needing the support of our incredible friends and family.

Honestly, I wish I had a crystal ball that could've shown me the financial reality of my hearing aids when I was growing up. I didn't have a clue about the price until I hit the age of 20. 😅 The cost? Well, let's just say my eyes widened like two blazing supernovas when I first laid eyes on that bill!

It was a wake-up call, my friends. I realized that I needed to start thinking about my future, about making the kind of income that would ensure I could always afford the hearing aids that are such a big part of my life. 🦻🏽

So, I sat down, pen in hand, and started jotting down my wildest dreams and goals. And a nagging question surfaced: "Will I have enough to afford my hearing aids down the road?" 🤔

Now, here's where it gets interesting. Your country might have some awesome support systems in place for people with disabilities. I, for one, am lucky enough to have the Canadian government in my corner, offering the support I need. 🇨🇦

But here's the thing, this topic doesn't often steal the spotlight in conversations, especially not in the whirlwind of podcasts and discussions. That's perfectly fine, but let me tell you, talking about finance in the disability community is not just important; it's absolutely crucial! 💰

Guess what? That's right, I'm gearing up to obtain my financial advisor license, and I couldn't be more thrilled! I've got a little secret to share with you. I'm on the cusp of becoming your financial advisor.

So there you have it, folks! Get ready to turn your financial frowns upside down and embark on this high-energy quest to make money matters an open book for everyone, especially those of us with disabilities. Let's make finance not just understandable but fun, accessible, and empowering!

Stay tuned for more money magic, because we're just getting started on this incredible journey. If you are someone who wants to achieve their financial goals. Book a zoom call with me! Remember, it's about unlocking your financial superpowers! 💥💪 #FinanceAndDisabilityAdventures
